Get in contact with us if you wish to contribute to our ongoing dialogue with the European Commission on the future research and innovation needs of cities! Participate to the open consultation on the priority areas for the future research and innovation funding programme Horizon Europe. The consultation will close on 8 September 2019.

What do you think are the most pressing challenges that EU-funded research and innovation should tackle? What are the most important impacts – scientific, technological, economic, societal – that EU-funded research and innovation should target? What are the top priorities of cities for research and innovtaion and which obstacles do cities face when applying and managing EU funded projects for research and innovation?

The Commission is preparing the implementation of Horizon Europe, the next and most ambitious EU research and innovation programme (2021-2027) with a proposed budget of €100 billion, in an intensive co-design process. The process will help shape European research and innovation investments in the coming years. As part of the process, the Commission has launched an online consultation opne until 8 September 2019.

EUROCITIES is establishing a core group of cities/practioners with an interest in developing ideas on the future innovation needs of cities. These ideas will be collected and use for EUROCITIES ongoing dialogue with the European Commission, in particular with the directorate on research and innovation (DG RTD).

EUROCITIES has been actively involved in shaping Horizon Europe, its functioning and its priorities. We had an active role in the consultations from the Committe of the Region and we have been in contact with the European Parliament, by sending recommendations for amendments to the rapporteurs based on the policy statement we published in 2018, which emphasize the need for a strong urban dimension.

We have beein involved with DG RTD in the high level group for the strategic research and innovation agenda on ‘innovating cities’ and we have also asked to have a seat in the group that will define the new mission board on 'Climate neutral and smart cities'. Finally we have an ongoing dialogue with various directors and officers in DG RTD to gather intelligence and suggest topics for future call for proposals.

To the consultation.
