Following the success of the first EUROCITIES Mayors Summit in 2017, we are organising a second in Brussels from 20-21 March 2019 to discuss critical European issues including citizen engagement.
EUROCITIES mayors are committed to be strategic partners for the EU institutions to build a more positive future for our citizens.
The second mayors summit will bring together local, national and European leaders to discuss the role of cities in the future of Europe, with a special focus on citizen engagement.
Also on the agenda for discussion will be the 2019 European Parliament elections, which will take place two months after the event.
The summit will be the perfect occasion to launch our EUROCITIES manifesto, which will outline the post-2020 city agenda.
At a time when Europe is striving to retain its legitimacy and relevance, cities can provide a critical link with citizens.
The mismatch between people's expectations and what can be done to tackle our most pressing challenges is causing an increasing distance between political institutions and the public.
With our 'Cities4Europe – Europe for citizens' campaign and the citizens panels initiative, cities are leading the way towards the creation of societies where people come first and where trust between people and public authorities is strengthened.
By involving citizens in a dialogue about our future, Cities4Europe brings people and policymakers together to explore new ways of engaging citizens.
Cities are proving how their actions can inspire all levels of government to build societies where people come first and to change the way decisions are taken in Europe.
This campaign will underpin the summit's exploration of a new kind of democracy in Europe.
