On 14–16 November, the city of Barcelona will host EUROCITIES working group on housing, in the context of the World Congress on Sustainable Cities.

The World Congress on Sustainable Cities (http://www.smartcityexpo.com/en/) is a global event that will gather over 700 cities and municipalities. They will showcase best practices and achievements within the broad ‘sustainability’ theme.

From environmental and mobility angles, EUROCITIES will present outcomes of the ‘Sharing cities’ (http://www.sharingcities.eu/) project featuring London, Warsaw, Milan, Burgas, Bordeux and Milan. Sustainable housing solutions will be discussed during a two-day seminar titled ‘Smart housing in a smart city’.

The ‘Smart housing in a smart city’ seminar includes presentations from political representatives and city administrations from major cities, including: London, Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Dublin and Bonn. Deputy mayor of Barcelona, Laia Ortiz, deputy mayor of Paris, Ian Brossat will also be speaking. The meeting will address how cities are responding to changing dynamics in the housing market and increasing pressures on housing markets in terms of housing affordability.

Cities involved in the working group recognise the negative impact of decreased public spending on housing across Europe and the growing issue of housing exclusion in European cities. To this end, they will explore: the roles of various measures to address speculation in housing markets, such as rent ceilings (on Tuesday 14 November 2017); and multiple ways of managing short-term rental in cities (on Wednesday 15 November 2017). Take a look at the meeting agenda, attached.
